It has been a privilege to campaign as the Green Party nominee for City Council in our 8th district where the Republicans, the only other opposition party, could not even muster a token candidate.
As before the election, I continue to advocate for a gun ban and a minimum livable wage. I continue to call for the collection of millions of dollars of delinquent taxes and an audit of 8th District Council finances. I continue to demand an end to the Iraq war which has wrought devastation abroad and, at home, deprived our public education, health and transportation systems of desperately needed resources. Many individuals in our northwest Philadelphia community lead lives of not-so-quiet desperation.
And I continue to work to end the Democratic Party monopoly which does what all monopolies do: oppress.
The extraordinary work of my campaign chair, Northwest Greens leader Chris Robinson and my volunteer coordinator Carol McLean, often had me wondering why it was not I who was supporting one of them for public office. The efforts of our many dedicated campaign workers and volunteers helped convince 1100 voters in Northwest Philadelphia, albeit only 4%, to vote Green for a change and, in so doing, help bend our small part of the universe toward environmental, economic and social justice.
I salute all of you who live, work and visit our community for the good things you do, both large and small, every day. You have my vote.
