"Not only is it extortion to take money to do a job you're already getting paid for, but everyone else waiting gets pushed back while your matter takes precedence," said Meehan.
Meehan says Pinkett extorted thousands of dollars from the same person. Councilwoman Reed Miller said her entire staff was shocked. Pinkett worked in her office until she took a similar job with the city controller. Alan Butkovitz said Pinkett alerted her supervisor that she expected to be charged, then she was terminated.
If convicted, Pinkett could face 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
