"I know about business. For several years I operated a bookstore and newsstand in the Reading Terminal Market. Small businesses help build communities. I knew and interacted with my customers on a daily basis. Everyone benefits when small businesses are supported... I'm so grateful to be here tonight and to have the chance to speak first. Just last Thursday, I was practically thrown out of a candidate forum just a mile away from my home. I'm a minority candidate: I'm running on the Green Party ticket. Now some people say I can't win because I'm WHITE. And other people say I can't win because I'm GREEN.Isn't there a place in the world for me? Each of you have a dream, whether it be about something in your personal life, your family or maybe your work. I have a dream too. My dream is to appear as a candidate for City Council on the November ballot. And I am learning. I saw Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown with a petition in her hand at a get-together for City Councilpeople. So here I am standing, with my petition board in hand tonight, asking you if you could just give me a chance. I look forward to learning more about you and telling you more about me. Thank you" Paraphrase of opening remarks Logan Olney EPIC Forum, Children's Aid Society, Cooke Elementary School. 1300 West Louden Street.
